About this position

[£20,780 annual maintenance grant for 2025/26 (subject to change), full coverage of PhD programme fees, HE teacher training and practice, £700 per year GTF allowance from Year 2, Conference Support Scheme. Not compatible with other studentships such as NWSSDTP and China Scholarship Council.] The University of Liverpool Management School is offering four-year fully funded Graduate Teaching Fellowships (GTFs) for students planning to start a Management PhD in October 2026. These fellowships provide substantial financial support, including a £20,780 annual maintenance grant (subject to change), full coverage of PhD programme fees, and a formal higher education teacher training programme. GTFs are designed for full-time PhD students who wish to gain both research and teaching experience, preparing them for academic careers.

In the first year, fellows complete a teacher training programme and gain pedagogical skills through mentored classroom involvement. In subsequent years, students focus on their doctoral research while continuing to develop teaching expertise. Research proposals are welcomed in a wide range of management areas, including Marketing (B2B marketing, consumer behaviour, digital identity, marketing strategy, analytics, responsible marketing), Operations and Supply Chain Management (transport, logistics, agri-food supply chains, sustainable operations, supply chain technologies, analytics, risk), Strategy, International Business and Entrepreneurship (sustainable strategy, governance, international business, innovation, collaboration, digital technologies, intellectual property, entrepreneurship, social inclusion), and Work, Organisation and Management (work, health, wellbeing, leadership, equality, diversity, inclusion, identity, grand challenges).

Applicants must hold a UK master's degree or international equivalent in a business and management discipline, preferably at merit or above, and submit a strong research proposal. Required application documents include a research proposal, transcripts, degree certificates, passport details (for international applicants), English language certificates (for international applicants), a personal statement (with 'ULMS-GTF-2026 studentship' in the title), a CV, contact details for two proposed supervisors, and names and contact details of two referees. The application process involves registering and applying online, selecting the appropriate programme and funding source, and submitting all documents before the deadline of 2 January 2026. GTFs are compatible with external bursaries and additional funding schemes offered by the Management School, such as a £700 per year GTF allowance (from Year 2) and the Conference Support Scheme, but are not compatible with other studentships like those from the North West Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership or the China Scholarship Council.

For advice on supervisors, applicants may contact the Management PhD Director of Studies, Dr Leighann Spencer, or the respective Group Directors of Research: Professor Lynn Sudbury-Riley (Marketing), Professor Hugo Lam (Operations and Supply Chain Management), Professor Nikolaos Papageorgiadis (Strategy, International Business and Entrepreneurship), and Professor Dennis Jancsary (Work Organisation and Management).
