About this position

The DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa offers fully funded Master’s and PhD scholarships to outstanding candidates from the region. The initiative, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), aims to strengthen higher education systems and foster sustainable academic growth across Africa. Scholarships are available for development-related fields such as Food Chemistry, Energy Technology, Soil and Water Engineering, Education Research, Molecular Biology, Public Health, Environmental Health, and more, with programs offered through DAAD’s partner universities in countries including Botswana, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Uganda. The scholarship covers all major expenses, including monthly stipends, tuition, research and study allowances, thesis publication costs, travel (for In Region scholars), and health insurance. Applicants must be graduates or postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa, hold the appropriate prior degree (Bachelor’s for Master’s, Master’s for PhD), and demonstrate a strong academic record and motivation for development-related work. Women and candidates from underrepresented regions are especially encouraged to apply. Recipients are expected to return to their home country or region after completing their studies. Applications must be submitted through DAAD-listed host universities, and candidates must meet both DAAD and host institution requirements. The application deadline is 27 November 2025. For more information and to apply, visit the official DAAD scholarship page.
