The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) in Japan is offering a fully funded Research Internship Program for Fall 2026, open to international students in a wide range of STEM fields. Applicants must be in the final two years of a bachelor’s degree, enrolled in a master’s program, or have recently graduated with a bachelor’s or master’s degree. PhD students are not eligible. The academic background of applicants should align with their chosen research unit at OIST, and currently enrolled students must have approval from their home institution.
Research opportunities span a diverse array of units and projects, including but not limited to: analysis of partial differential equations, evolutionary genomics, marine physics and engineering, computational neuroscience, quantum systems, applied cryptography, information theory, and more. Interns will be assigned to research units based on mutual interests and availability, with projects co-designed in discussion with OIST faculty after acceptance.
