About this position

Fully funded PhD opportunity in mantle and isotope geochemistry focused on the Gardar Alkaline Province in South Greenland. The project investigates mantle metasomatism, volatile processes, and the origin of critical metal enrichment, with particular attention to rare earth element (REE) and high field strength element (HFSE) mineralisation.

The position is hosted at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) and is carried out in collaboration with the Natural History Museum of Denmark, the University of Copenhagen, and Aarhus University. The PhD student will be enrolled at the PhD School of Science, University of Copenhagen.

Research topics include trace element geochemistry, radiogenic isotopes (Sr–Nd–Pb), advanced stable isotope tracers, mantle source characterization, primitive melts, dyke swarms, and mantle xenoliths. The project uses existing sample collections, and no fieldwork is planned.

Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree in geoscience, geochemistry, petrology, or a related field; strong analytical and quantitative skills; interest in mantle processes and/or isotope geochemistry; experience with geochemical or isotopic analytical methods is an advantage; fluent English is required.

Funding: fully funded 3-year PhD employment under relevant trade union agreement, with salary and terms according to GEUS/Ministry rules. The working week is 37 hours.

Application window: apply online by 25 May 2026 (Danish time). Required documents include CV, cover letter, MSc and BSc diploma/transcripts, and if the MSc is not yet completed, a signed pre-approval of the MSc thesis.
