Doctoral Scholarship

Call for applications for a fully funded PhD scholarship in Contemporary Anglophone Literature at the University of Antwerp. The doctoral project is titled Narrating Parental Regret in Contemporary Anglophone Fiction and sits at the intersection of English literature, narrative analysis, affect theory, gender studies, and health humanities.

The project examines how literature represents parental regret, with attention to narrative techniques such as time, perspective, and voice, as well as social dimensions including gender, race, class, and sexuality. The successful candidate will conduct doctoral research, complete a PhD dissertation, publish articles, present at conferences, support teaching in English literature, and contribute to departmental research activities.

Eligibility highlights include a Master’s degree in English Literature or a related field, excellent academic results, strong research and writing skills, high proficiency in English, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Interdisciplinary research experience and international academic exposure are considered additional strengths.

Funding is a fully funded PhD scholarship for 1 year, renewable up to 4 years, with transport reimbursement and additional benefits such as eco-cheques and internet allowance. The position also provides access to training through the Antwerp Doctoral School and an international, stimulating academic environment.
