About this position

The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), in partnership with the British Council, is offering five fully funded Women in STEM Scholarships for the 2026 academic year. These scholarships are designed to support women from Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam to pursue a one-year, full-time master's degree in the UK. The initiative aims to close the gender gap and promote leadership and diversity in science, technology, engineering, and medicine (STEM) fields.

Eligible master's programs at LSTM include various Public Health specializations (Humanitarian Health, International, Managing Health Services, Outbreak Control and Health Protection, Sexual and Reproductive Health), MRes Tropical Health and Infectious Diseases Research, MSc One Health in Tropical Disease, MSc Tropical Disease Biology, and MSc Tropical and Infectious Diseases. The scholarship covers full tuition fees, a monthly living allowance, return flights to the UK, visa and insurance costs, and other related expenses for up to 12 months.

Applicants must be women as defined under UK law, hold a passport and be a permanent resident of one of the eligible countries, and have an undergraduate degree suitable for entry to a master's program at LSTM. Additional requirements include demonstrating academic motivation, a commitment to capacity building, and meeting the English language requirements of the chosen program. Applicants must not be receiving other UK study funding and must agree to return to their home country for at least two years after completing the scholarship. Ineligible applicants include those with dual British citizenship, prior UK government/institutional scholarships, or certain employment relationships with the UK government or British Council.

To apply, candidates must first apply for an eligible master's program at LSTM via the MyLSTM online portal and obtain a conditional offer. Once an offer is received, applicants should complete and submit the scholarship application form by 9am on 30 April 2026. The application requires a statement demonstrating suitability, relevant experience, and plans to contribute to STEM capacity building and engage other women and girls in STEM.

For more information and to access the application portal, visit the official scholarship page: https://lstm.ac/STEM2026.
