About this position

The UCD School of Earth Sciences at University College Dublin is offering four competitive funding-support opportunities for its MSc in Geomodelling and MSc in Environmental and Engineering Geoscience programs, commencing September 2026. Programs:

  • MSc in Geomodelling: Focuses on digital subsurface characterisation and modelling, integrating geology, geophysics, geoengineering, and computational geoscience. Modules include stratigraphic prediction, applied structural geology, geofluids and geomechanics, mineral systems, geomodelling principles, geostatistics, 3D modelling, seismic interpretation, drilling and well logging, digital field skills, geocomputation with Python, and a three-month applied research project. Training in industry-standard software (e.g., Petrel, Leapfrog, GIS) and soft skills is provided.
  • MSc in Environmental and Engineering Geoscience: Prepares graduates for sustainable engineering solutions in natural and built environments. Modules cover hydrogeology, rock engineering, near-surface geophysics, environmental geochemistry, drilling and well logging, digital mapping, geotechnics, remote sensing, geostatistics, and a 30-credit applied research project. The program is delivered by staff from Earth Sciences, Civil Engineering, Geography, and Biological & Environmental Sciences, with strong links to industry and professional accreditation pathways.

Eligibility: Applicants must have an Honours undergraduate degree at 2.1 or higher (or equivalent) in Earth Science, Geoscience, Geology, or closely related fields (e.g., Geophysics, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering). Relevant work experience may be considered. English language proficiency (IELTS 6.5, no band less than 6.0) is required for non-native speakers.
