If the normative study period is four years, Lingnan University will provide the same level of support for the fourth year. The scheme is open to all research areas, including but not limited to biology, biomedical engineering, chemistry, computer science, economics, psychology, business, physics, mathematics, and political science.

Applicants must demonstrate outstanding academic performance, research potential, and strong communication and leadership skills. A relevant bachelor's or master's degree is required, and English language proficiency (such as TOEFL or IELTS) may be necessary for non-native speakers. The application process involves two steps: first, applicants must register and submit initial information through the RGC Admission System (www.rgc.edu.hk/hkphd) between 1 September and 1 December 2025 to obtain a reference number. Second, applicants must submit a full application to Lingnan University's electronic system by 1 December 2025, quoting the RGC reference number and paying the application fee. It is essential to select 'HK PhD Fellowship Scheme (2026-27)' as the application type. Late applications will not be accepted.

Lingnan University will review applications and nominate outstanding candidates for the HKPFS. Those not selected for the fellowship may still be considered for admission to Lingnan's PhD programmes with alternative funding, such as Postgraduate Studentship awards.
