This opportunity is part of the Regional Centre for Sustainable Adaptation to Global Change in the Middle East, with funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Federal Foreign Office. Fellows will engage in interdisciplinary research across four main themes: Climate and Hydrology, Biodiversity and Land Use, Ecosystem Services & Socio-Economy, and Governance and Ethics. Research topics include water harvesting, urban flood mitigation, floating photovoltaics, groundwater vulnerability, rangeland monitoring, ecosystem red-listing, plant-pollinator interactions, agricultural water management, water-energy-food-ecosystem nexus modeling, land degradation, nature-based rainwater harvesting, climate governance, transboundary water agreements, and food waste governance.
Applicants must have a Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field and be fluent in English and Arabic. The program encourages applications from women scientists and underrepresented groups. Candidates should possess high motivation, creativity, organizational skills, and a critical analytical mindset, with experience or interest in international and interdisciplinary teamwork. The fellowship provides a stipend, research funds, annual stays abroad, German university affiliation, and co-supervision by regional and German researchers. Self-funded candidates are also eligible to apply.
To apply, candidates should submit a single PDF containing a motivation letter (disclosure required if AI was used for spell-check), complete CV, transcripts, and specify qualifications for up to three projects. Two letters of reference must be sent directly by referees. The application deadline is January 25, 2026, and the fellowship starts in May 2026.
