The Walsh Scholarship Programme, in partnership with Queen's University Belfast and Teagasc, is announcing new PhD opportunities for 2026 in agri-food research. This flagship doctoral training programme is designed for ambitious graduates seeking to undertake high-impact PhD study while developing as confident, capable, and career-ready researchers. The 2026 intake will include 20 research projects across agriculture, food, environment, climate, rural development, and related disciplines.

Scholars will be embedded in active, multidisciplinary research environments at Teagasc’s national research centres and partner universities, including Queen's University Belfast. The programme offers access to state-of-the-art facilities, laboratories, and research infrastructure, as well as opportunities for professional development through conferences, international collaboration, and travel. Scholars benefit from a cohort-based community, supportive supervision teams, and advanced training in research, communication, leadership, and problem-solving.

All PhD opportunities are fully funded for 'Home' rate tuition fees. At Queen's University Belfast, this means UK, Republic of Ireland, and EU nationals will have all fees covered, while other nationalities may not. Applicants should check with each institution for specific eligibility details. The application process is centralized through the Walsh Scholars Programme, with adverts and application forms available from 9th February 2026. The deadline for applications is 19th March 2026.
