About this position

This fully funded PhD scholarship is offered by the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Monash University, located at the Parkville campus. The successful candidate will join the GPCR EcoPharmacology Lab within the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS), a world-leading centre in GPCR drug discovery. The project, supervised by Dr Anh TN Nguyen (ARC DECRA Fellow) and Professor Chris Sobey, focuses on applying deep learning, molecular modelling, and GPCR pharmacology to accelerate drug discovery for dementia treatment in postmenopausal women.

The research will leverage state-of-the-art computational resources, AI platforms, and established collaborations in cardiovascular and neurovascular disease. The multidisciplinary team includes experts in GPCR biology, computational pharmacology, artificial intelligence, and neurovascular in vivo models, providing a rich environment for high-impact research and professional development.

The scholarship provides a tax-free stipend of AUD$35,000 per annum for 3 years and 9 months, with additional support for computing and conference attendance. The position is open exclusively to Australian and New Zealand citizens or Permanent Residents. Applicants should have a First-Class Honours degree or High Second-Class Masters degree (or equivalent) in a health-related field such as paramedicine, nursing, pharmacy, public health, epidemiology, or economics. Strong quantitative research skills, experience in research methodology and data analysis, and evidence of research experience are required. Applicants with publications are highly regarded, and fluency in written and oral English is essential.

To apply, interested candidates should contact Dr Anh TN Nguyen via email ([email protected]) with a cover letter (including a brief statement of research interest in health economics and outcome research), CV (with full citation of publications and details of two referees), academic transcripts, and evidence of English language proficiency if appropriate. Applications must be submitted by 31 January 2026, 11:55pm AEDT. For further details and application instructions, refer to the official Monash University job posting.

This opportunity is ideal for motivated graduates seeking to advance their career in pharmaceutical sciences, computational pharmacology, and drug discovery, while contributing to impactful research in dementia treatment.
