About this position

The Graduate School at Arts, Faculty of Arts, Aarhus University, in collaboration with the TEXT project funded by the Danish National Research Foundation, is offering a PhD scholarship/fellowship focused on Probabilistic Methods in NLP: Representation Learning or AI Alignment. This opportunity is available as either a 5+3 PhD fellowship for up to three years or a 4+4 SU PhD scholarship for up to four years, starting from 1 April 2026, contingent on funding availability.

The position is embedded within the TEXT project, which aims to advance research in natural language processing (NLP) using probabilistic and representation learning methods, as well as exploring the critical area of AI alignment. The research will be interdisciplinary, drawing on expertise from computer science, linguistics, mathematics, and statistics, and is situated within the vibrant academic environment of Aarhus University’s Faculty of Arts.

Applicants should have a strong academic background, holding a Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as arts, computer science, linguistics, mathematics, or related disciplines. Experience or interest in probabilistic modeling, NLP, representation learning, or AI alignment is highly desirable. The position is full-time (37 hours per week) and offers a dynamic research setting with access to leading scholars and resources.

Funding for the position is provided by the Danish National Research Foundation through the TEXT project, with options for either a three-year or four-year scholarship/fellowship depending on the applicant’s qualifications and the chosen track. The successful candidate will join a collaborative research community and contribute to cutting-edge developments in NLP and AI.

The application deadline is 1 January 2026. Interested candidates should apply online via the Aarhus University Graduate School of Arts application portal, reviewing open and specific calls at https://phd.arts.au.dk/applicants/open-and-specific-calls. For further information, applicants may consult the position link at Euraxess or contact the Graduate School directly.

This is an excellent opportunity for motivated researchers to pursue advanced studies in probabilistic NLP, representation learning, and AI alignment within a supportive and well-funded academic environment.
