The Department of Communication and Culture at BI Norwegian Business School in Oslo, Norway, is offering multiple four-year doctoral scholarships for talented students interested in pursuing a PhD starting August 2026. The department is internationally recognized, with around 50 faculty members and active research groups in Internet and Society, Corporate Communication, Creative Industries, and Education. Research topics span digital transformation in the arts, structural changes in creative industries, the impact of communication technologies on work and organizations, online communities, social legitimacy of technological change, and innovation in education management. Faculty regularly publish in top journals such as the Journal of Management, Organization Studies, and Human Resource Management.

The PhD program is designed for students aiming for an international academic career and who wish to contribute to global research and publications. Candidates are encouraged to propose their own research projects within the department’s broad interests. The program includes close supervision by research faculty and requires 25% teaching responsibilities, providing valuable experience for future academic roles.

Applicants must hold a Master of Science degree with thesis work, a research masters/M. Phil, or a comparable degree relevant to communication, management, political science, psychology, sociology, or philosophy by early summer 2026. An MBA does not meet the admission requirements. Final-year Master of Science students are welcome to apply. Required application materials include degree certificates and transcripts, a Diploma Supplement, a 5-10 page project proposal, CV, at least two letters of recommendation, certificates from doctoral-level courses (if applicable), a list of publications and relevant activities, a signed verification document, and TOEFL/IELTS test scores (waivers possible under certain conditions). All documents must be uploaded electronically; late or emailed submissions are not accepted except for students completing their master’s in 2026.

The scholarship provides NOK 572,800 per year (subject to adjustment in 2026), automatic membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, and a supportive research environment. Successful candidates will be based at BI Norwegian Business School in Oslo and must submit a detailed progress plan upon acceptance.
