About this position

The Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) is offering Early Career Research Fellowships for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers based in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). These fellowships are designed to build leadership, strengthen research capacity, and advance knowledge at the intersection of violence against women (VAW) and violence against children (VAC). SVRI aims to support locally led research that is impactful, sustainable, and grounded in the realities of LMICs, addressing gaps in the evidence base and promoting integrated, evidence-based approaches to violence prevention. In 2026, SVRI will award two doctoral fellowships (up to $17,000 each) and two postdoctoral fellowships (up to $20,500 each), each with a duration of up to two years.

Eligible applicants must be nationals of an LMIC, enrolled full-time at an accredited academic institution in an LMIC, and conducting research focused on VAW and VAC intersections. PhD applicants must have a defended or institutionally approved dissertation proposal. Preference is given to candidates from underrepresented regions or groups and those committed to advancing the rights and wellbeing of women and girls. The application process requires submission of an online form via Proposal Central, including career objectives, community impact statement, research proposal, institutional verification, academic transcripts, and two reference letters.

Short-listed candidates will be invited for a panel interview. Applications are accepted in English, French, or Spanish, and must be submitted by 31 January 2026. For further information, applicants can consult the full Request for Proposals and FAQs available on the SVRI website.
