About this position

The University of Glasgow is offering the African Excellence Award for the 2026/27 academic year, targeting high-achieving African students who aspire to become future leaders and contribute to their home countries. This prestigious scholarship is open to students from eligible African countries who wish to pursue a one-year taught Masters programme in any discipline at the University of Glasgow. Up to 16 scholarships are available, each providing a full tuition fee waiver for the duration of the programme.

Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence, typically equivalent to a UK First Class Honours degree, and must hold (or be in the process of obtaining) an offer for a postgraduate taught Masters programme commencing in September 2026. Candidates must have international fee status, be domiciled in Africa, and hold a passport from one of the eligible countries. Additionally, applicants should be able to articulate a clear career and/or development plan that will be supported by their Masters-level study. The scholarship does not cover living expenses, so recipients must meet the UKVI living costs/financial requirements independently.

The award is open to all academic fields, including but not limited to Business, Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Public Health, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Science, Law, Education, Management, Finance, and Statistics. The University of Glasgow is committed to supporting self-funded students, and this scholarship cannot be combined with other University or external sponsorship discounts, except for the Alumni Discount.

To apply, candidates should submit an online application through the University of Glasgow scholarship portal, using their student ID and application number. The deadline for applications is 31st March 2026 (23:59 UK time). Shortlisted applicants will be contacted for interviews by 8th May 2026. For further information or eligibility queries, applicants can contact [email protected] or [email protected].

This opportunity is ideal for academically excellent African students seeking to advance their knowledge and skills in a world-class academic environment, with the aim of making a positive impact in their communities upon graduation.
