An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated PhD candidate to join the University of Western Australia (UWA) and the Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS), working within the High-Performance Rowing Program.
This fully funded, industry-embedded PhD will combine biomechanics and advanced data analytics to uncover the factors that drive elite rowing performance. Key aspects include:
Integrating in-boat sensor data (acceleration, force) using Functional Data Analysis (FDA) and time-series techniques
Quantifying how technique, force, and environmental conditions (wind, current, water temperature) influence boat speed
Our Ideal Candidate:
?? Degree in sports science, computer science, engineering, or mathematics
?? Prior research training (minimum Honours or Master’s qualification)
? Desirable: Skills in biomechanics, statistics, data science, or programming
