About this position

KTH Royal Institute of Technology is seeking two postdoctoral researchers to join the Division of Communication Systems, contributing to major European research initiatives SMART-6GSAT and 6G DICE. These projects aim to shape the next generation of integrated terrestrial and non-terrestrial 6G networks, bringing together leading academic, industrial, and public sector partners to develop energy-efficient, robust, and reliable AI-based solutions for future communication infrastructures. The postdocs will focus on AI-supported network design, optimization, and orchestration across terrestrial, airborne, and satellite segments. Research will combine state-of-the-art machine learning methods—including large language models, transformers, and explainable AI—with mathematical optimization to enable dynamic allocation of radio, computational, and energy resources under network constraints. The collaborative and interdisciplinary environment offers close interaction with major industry partners such as Ericsson and Airbus, as well as other European research centers. Successful candidates will have opportunities for high-impact publications, contributions to demonstrators and standardization, and professional development in both academia and industry. Responsibilities include coordinating research activities within the group, leading collaborations in international projects, publishing in top scientific journals and conferences, and supervising master’s students and assisting with PhD student supervision. Research topics include vehicular and airborne communication systems, AI-based network optimization, integrated terrestrial and non-terrestrial network architectures, coordinated communication, computation and sensing, 3D wireless networks, and interference management. Applicants must hold a PhD in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field, with a strong research background in wireless communication, networking, or optimization. Additional qualifications include a strong publication record, experience in interdisciplinary and international environments, excellent English skills, and documented expertise in areas such as interference management, load balancing, beamforming and MIMO algorithms, joint optimization of communication and computation resources, integrated satellite and terrestrial networks, or AI/ML-based network control and performance evaluation. The position is a full-time, fixed-term postdoctoral appointment for up to two years, with monthly salary and benefits according to KTH regulations. KTH is committed to equality, diversity, and good working conditions. Applications must be submitted via the KTH recruitment system and include a CV, degree certificates and transcripts (with translations if necessary), a publication list, and a brief statement of research interests and motivation. The deadline for applications is November 6, 2025.
