Assistant Professor Tenure-Track Position in Information Technology, AI, and Data Science
The University of South Carolina's Department of Integrated Information Technology (IIT), within the Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing, is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Information Technology. The expected start date is August 2026. This faculty role is ideal for candidates whose research intersects with Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Data Science, Bioinformatics, Natural Language Processing, Human-Computer Interaction, Cyber-Physical Systems, Embodied AI, Smart Manufacturing, or AI/ML applications enabled by Domain-Specific Accelerators. The department encourages applications from those working in multidisciplinary or emerging areas of computing.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach both online and in-person courses, supervise undergraduate and graduate research, and participate in university and professional service. Building an externally funded research program is a key expectation, with opportunities for collaboration across the Artificial Intelligence Institute, the McNAIR Center, and the Cyberinfrastructure Research Lab. The IIT Department offers an ABET-accredited BS in Integrated Information Technology, a Master of Science in Information Technology, a Master of Health Information Technology (MHIT), and a PhD in Informatics.
Applicants must hold a doctorate in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field by the start date. Candidates should demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and research with high scholarly impact. The position is full-time (37.5 hours/week) on a 9-month basis, with salary commensurate with qualifications and a comprehensive benefits package including health and life insurance, paid leave, and retirement programs.
