Climate Futures in Digital Cultures

Leuphana University of Lüneburg is offering funded PhD positions as part of the Embracing Transformation research initiative, focusing on the theme 'Climate Futures in Digital Cultures.' This opportunity is ideal for graduates with backgrounds in geoscience, sustainability, digital cultures, migration studies, or related fields, especially those who have taken the Space for Ethics elective and have a strong aptitude for critically evaluating geoscience sustainability research. The research explores how climate futures are constituted, imagined, and shaped in digital cultures, examining the role of digital media technologies in both contributing to and mitigating the climate crisis. Thematic areas include biological and ecological computing, smart cities, disaster management platforms, environmental aesthetics in digital media, noise pollution, climate fiction, and technology stewardship. Supervisors include leading professors in environmental science, media studies, urban planning, and related disciplines. The position offers a stipend of €1850 per month for up to four years. Applicants must submit a CV, a letter of motivation (2 pages) referencing the key subject area, and a research proposal (5 pages) detailing their intended contribution. The application deadline is October 1, 2024. For more information and to apply, visit the provided link and follow the instructions to submit your application materials.
