About this position
University of Copenhagen is advertising an 18-month postdoc in environmental microbiology focused on PFAS-contaminated soils in Denmark.
The project will investigate microbial communities in polluted sites, including 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing, mobilomic sequencing, and other genomic analyses to study the stress response of fluoride and PFAS on microbial strains. The role of bacteria in helping remove PFAS “forever chemicals” is a central theme of the work.
This opportunity is a strong fit for candidates with experience in microbial ecology, molecular biology techniques, environmental microbiology, and ideally bioremediation and xenobiotics in the environment. The postdoc may also involve teaching and student supervision.
Funding and employment terms follow the University of Copenhagen’s academic staff agreement; salary supplement negotiation is possible. The position starts on 1 July 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Application materials must be submitted in English through the university portal and include a CV, diplomas (Master and PhD or equivalent), a research plan, a complete publication list, and 3 relevant reprints. Deadline: 3 May 2026, 23:59 GMT+2.
Contact: Tue Kjærgaard Nielsen (Assistant Professor, University of Copenhagen).
