About this position

Radboud University is offering a fully funded PhD position in Molecular Biology, focusing on the study of protein regulatory networks in cancer within the Vermeulen Lab. The research aims to develop and apply innovative omics strategies to understand how protein–protein interactions and dynamic protein states influence cellular identity and drive oncogenic signaling and disease progression. The project is part of the Oncode Accelerator Growth Fund, targeting the acceleration of new cancer therapies.

As a PhD candidate, you will employ and develop proteomic tools to study protein interactions and signaling pathways in primary cancer tissues, organoids, and clinical samples. The work includes optimizing proteomic workflows for limited and heterogeneous samples, establishing intratumoral heterogeneity maps using spatial proteomic profiling, and exploring single-cell proteomics approaches. Collaboration with a postdoctoral researcher will enable the development of novel proximity-labelling strategies to chart dynamic protein–protein interactions. These efforts will contribute to large-scale network analyses across clinically annotated cohorts, aiming to identify actionable molecular targets for drug development.

The Vermeulen Lab is internationally recognized for its expertise in state-of-the-art proteomics technologies and translational cancer research. The group collaborates with affiliated groups across the Netherlands and has access to clinical material and pharmaceutical industry connections. The Faculty of Science at Radboud University is known for its groundbreaking research and international environment, offering excellent support for personal and professional development.

Applicants should have a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field, with strong interest and experience in mass spectrometry-based proteomics, cancer biology, and gene regulation. Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular cloning is required; prior experience with mass spectrometry is advantageous. The position requires a collaborative mindset, analytical skills, and motivation for interdisciplinary work.

The PhD position is a full-time, four-year contract (initially 1.5 years, extendable by 2.5 years upon positive evaluation), with a starting salary of €3,059 per month, rising to €3,881 in the fourth year. Benefits include an 8% holiday allowance, 8.3% end-of-year bonus, extra annual leave, flexible working hours, pension plan, and discounts on sports and cultural activities. Dual Career Coaching is available for partners. The application deadline is 4 January 2026. For more information and to apply, visit the Radboud University job portal.
