Postdoc Position in Algorithm Design for Rydberg Quantum Computers (Physics)

The Gärttner Group at Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena is inviting applications for a postdoctoral position in algorithm design for Rydberg quantum computers. This opportunity is part of a collaborative project within the QPhoton initiative, funded by the Carl-Zeiss foundation, involving partners at Jena, Stuttgart, and Ulm. The research focuses on the design and simulation of state-preparation schemes using Rydberg atom quantum computers, leveraging multi-atom gates and aiming for efficient preparation of tensor network states. The position is based in the Quantum Information and Quantum Simulation group led by Professor Martin Gärttner at the Institute of Condensed Matter Theory and Optics. The successful candidate will work closely with Martin Gärttner and collaborate with project partners Patrick Emonts (Ulm), Tilmann Pfau (Stuttgart), and Florian Meinert (Ulm), as well as other members of the Gärttner group. The project encourages interdisciplinary collaboration within the qPhoton consortium and contributions to future grant proposals. The position is a full-time postdoc role (100%, 39.5h/week) with payment according to TVL E13. The initial contract is for at least two years. There are no formal teaching duties, but participation in teaching activities is possible. Applicants must hold a PhD in theoretical physics and demonstrate expertise in numerical simulation methods, ideally in quantum many-body dynamics, quantum optics, or cold atom physics. Additional experience with open quantum systems, neutral atom quantum computing using Rydberg states, tensor network states, or adiabatic state preparation is advantageous. Prior collaboration with experimental groups is also valued.
