Kiel University in Germany is offering multiple PhD opportunities in the fields of Economic Geography, Agri-Food Systems, and Law. The Research Training Group “DIVERSILIENCE – Diversification for Food Systems Resilience” is recruiting 15 PhD candidates, including a position in the Working Group Economic Geography Kiel. This project focuses on the impact of lock-ins and diversification on the resilience of regional agricultural production systems, examining how path dependence, institutional context, and regional dynamics influence diversification and resilience in specialized agricultural regions from a multi-scalar perspective. The position is suitable for applicants with a Master’s degree in Human Geography or a related discipline, with knowledge of economic geography and agri-food systems. Experience with qualitative methods is considered an advantage.
Another PhD position is available in the field of Law, specifically in Civil and Business Law (Wirtschaftsrecht) at the Institute for Business and Tax Law, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sarah Legner. This role involves independent research towards a doctorate, supporting the professor’s academic work, and teaching responsibilities. Applicants must have passed the First or Second State Examination in Law with at least a 'satisfactory' grade, and, if applicable, the university specialization exam in a relevant field with at least 8 points. Advanced knowledge in civil and business law, interest in legal research, proficiency in English (C2) and French (B2), and computer skills are required. Experience as a student assistant in relevant legal fields and interest in competition law are desirable.
