The Melzer Lab at the Medical University of Vienna is offering a fully funded PhD position in Neuroscience, focusing on neuropeptide signaling and its role in brain circuits related to fear, anxiety, learning, and memory. The lab uses advanced techniques such as in vivo imaging, electrophysiology, rodent surgeries, and behavioral research to investigate neuronal mechanisms in mice. The position is funded by a WWTF grant and provides a 3-year contract with a gross annual salary of approximately €39,000, plus comprehensive benefits including health, accident, and retirement insurance. The successful candidate will join an international, collaborative research team led by Prof. Sarah Melzer, who brings extensive experience from Harvard Medical School and other leading institutions. Applicants should have an MSc in Neuroscience, Biology, or a related field, or a qualifying 4-year Bachelor’s degree. Experience in data analysis, lab techniques, animal handling, rodent surgery, behavioral testing, and English proficiency are required or advantageous. The PhD program offers hands-on training, international exposure, and opportunities to present research at conferences.
