About this position

The Department of Political Science at the University of Copenhagen is seeking excellent candidates for postdoctoral and assistant professor positions as part of the European Research Council (ERC)-funded project TECHORDER, led by Professor Rebecca Adler-Nissen. The project investigates the geopolitical struggles and governance of emerging global tech order, focusing on how companies and states shape digital technology, artificial intelligence, and quantum technology. Research will analyze the perspectives of leaders and employees at major tech firms and government officials from the US, China, India, the UK, France, Germany, and organizations such as the EU, UN, and OECD.

TECHORDER employs a multi-method approach, including ethnographic research, participatory mapping, surveys, interviews, computer vision, and network analysis, to uncover the hidden cultures, rivalries, and governance efforts that are reshaping international order in the digital age. The positions are fixed-term for 3 to 4 years, with salary starting at DKK 39,200 per month plus pension. Candidates should have a recent PhD in political science, international relations, or related fields, with proven research experience and publications. Expertise in IR and political theory, qualitative and interpretative methods, big data analysis, tech policy, and foreign policy is highly valued. Teaching experience and international research community participation are considered merits.

Responsibilities include individual and collaborative research, co-authoring publications, teaching, and active participation in the TECHORDER project and the department's academic activities. Assistant professors are encouraged to acquire Danish language proficiency within 3-6 years, with language training provided. The University of Copenhagen offers a vibrant, inclusive, and internationally oriented academic environment, with support for international researchers and their families.

To apply, submit a CV, motivation letter, research proposal, list of publications, up to three scientific works, and proof of doctoral degree via the application portal by 20 April 2026. For more information, visit the department and university websites.
