About this position

Adjunct/post-doc opportunity at the Department of Biological Physics and Nanospectroscopy (NZ52), Division of Interdisciplinary Research (NO5), at the Institute of Nuclear Physics Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow, Poland.

The position is a full-time, temporary postdoctoral role focused on an NCN-funded project titled Tumor viscoelasticity as a central player in glioblastoma treatment - towards mechanopharmacology. The successful candidate will work on experimental research at the interface of physics, biophysics, materials science, and biomedical engineering.

Core tasks include developing 2D and 3D hydrogel systems with controlled viscoelasticity for cell culture, performing rheological characterization of glioma and brain tissues and hydrogel systems, and carrying out microscopic imaging of glioma cells cultured on substrates with controlled viscoelasticity and treated with anticancer drugs. The role also involves active collaboration with project partners, including the Medical University of Białystok and Stanford University, USA, plus participation in research visits, manuscript preparation, and presentations at scientific meetings.

Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in physics, biophysics, chemistry, materials science, biomedical engineering, or a related area. Strong hands-on experience in hydrogel development for cell culture, fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy, and AFM is required, as is experience studying microparticle endocytosis and cytoskeletal organization. Experience with extracellular vesicles is welcome.

The post is offered as a 12-month contract with a possibility of extension, starting 1 December 2026. The stated deadline is 19 November 2026. The monthly basic gross salary is 9000 PLN gross, with potential additional allowances. Benefits include 36 days of annual leave, access to well-equipped research facilities and computing infrastructure, seminar activities, collaboration opportunities, and parking.

Applications must be submitted by email to [email protected] with the reference note 14/2026/Ad-NZ52. Required documents include a CV, cover letter, copy of PhD diploma or equivalent proof, a list of research achievements, and two recommendation letters from independent researchers.
