About this position
Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) is calling for 20 affiliated PhD student positions within its Graduate School in Sweden. This opportunity is aimed at PhD students whose research fits within WASP’s core areas of artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and software, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research and industrial relevance.
The affiliated positions are available across the six partner universities: Chalmers University of Technology, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Linköping University, Lund University, Umeå University, and Uppsala University, as well as affiliated groups of excellence at Örebro University and Luleå University of Technology. The program is designed for students who are already enrolled in a PhD program or will start no later than 2027-01-01, and who have completed at most one active year of doctoral studies by 2026-10-01.
Selected students gain access to the WASP Graduate School, including courses, research arenas, conferences, international trips, summer schools, and other activities. They must commit to participating in WASP courses and activities and attend the mandatory Winter Conference on January 12-14, 2027. The affiliated student’s university or company must provide full financing, including salary, office space, indirect costs, and travel costs related to WASP activities.
Applications must be submitted by the student’s main academic supervisor as a single file via the EasyChair portal. The proposal should include a research project description, CV with transcript and study plan, and a recommendation letter from the supervisor; an additional WASP collaborator letter is required if the supervisor is not already involved in WASP. The deadline is 2026-10-28 at 14:00.

What's required
Applicant must be an academic or industrial PhD student, or start no later than 2027-01-01, with activity level of at least 80%. The student must belong to one of the listed partner universities or affiliated groups, have a main research topic within a WASP research area, and have completed at most 1 active year of PhD studies by 2026-10-01. A strong academic track record is required; relevant industrial experience is favorable. Priority is given to underrepresented gender. The student must commit to WASP courses and activities and be present at the Winter Conference January 12-14, 2027.
