About this position
Call for Applications: Anthropology PhD Position at the University of Amsterdam for candidates from former Dutch colonies in the Americas.
This is a fully funded PhD opportunity in Anthropology within the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. The position is full-time (38 hours/week) and offers a monthly salary of €3,059–€3,881.
The project invites applicants from, or with heritage in, the Caribbean or South American regions shaped by Dutch colonialism and trans-Atlantic slavery. The research topic is open and can be chosen by the candidate, with strong relevance to decolonial research, identity, history, migration, culture, social justice, and community transformation.
Applicants should submit a motivation letter, CV, research proposal (max 2000 words), writing sample (max 20 pages), and contact details of two academic/research referees. The proposal should include a title, abstract, introduction and research questions, theoretical approach, research design and methods, originality and significance, and references.
