About this position

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), through its African Research Center on Air Quality and Climate (ARC_AIR), is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in Earth Observation, AI, and Territorial Sustainability. The position sits within an interdisciplinary research program addressing climate change, urbanization, resource systems, and territorial performance, with particular emphasis on Morocco, Africa, and semi-arid to arid regions.

The successful candidate will work at the intersection of Earth Observation, geospatial analytics, artificial intelligence, climate science, and sustainability science to develop predictive and decision-oriented frameworks for climate-resilient and sustainable territories. Research themes include AI-driven territorial diagnostics and foresight using multi-source satellite data, climate–water–energy–agriculture interactions, land-use and land-cover change (LULCC), urban and territorial sustainability indicators, energy demand and territorial energy metabolism, and urban/peri-urban agriculture as a climate-resilient solution.

This postdoctoral role is embedded in ARC_AIR, a research unit devoted to air quality, atmospheric chemistry, and climate, with a mission to support sustainable development in Africa through high-impact research, capacity building, and technology transfer. The postdoc is expected to conduct independent and collaborative research, publish in high-impact international journals, develop advanced geospatial/statistical/AI methodologies, contribute to research proposals and reports, support graduate student supervision, and engage with interdisciplinary teams and stakeholders.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Remote Sensing, Geospatial Sciences, Environmental Science, Climate Science, Data Science, Urban Studies, or a related field. Strong experience in Earth Observation data analysis and/or spatial modeling is essential, as is demonstrated publication ability in peer-reviewed journals. Experience with machine learning or deep learning for environmental or urban systems, and familiarity with climate modeling, urban agriculture, water resources, and energy systems will strengthen the application.

To apply, candidates should submit a cover letter, CV including publications, a 1–2 page research statement aligned with the program, one or two representative publications, and contact details for two referees. The application is listed as postdoctoral and the deadline is not specified in the posting.
