Assistant, Department of Translational Physiology, Infectiology and Public Health (PhD-oriented research assistant) Ghent University in Belgium

Ghent University is offering a full-time AAP temporary appointment in the Department of Translational Physiology, Infectiology and Public Health within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The position is research-oriented and explicitly states that at least 50% of the assignment will be spent on academic research in preparation of a doctoral dissertation, making it a strong PhD-related opportunity for candidates interested in parasitology, infectious diseases, and veterinary public health.

The successful candidate will contribute to research, teaching, and service activities. Teaching duties include organizing and supervising practical sessions for the courses Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases and Zoonoses, as well as supervising students working on master’s thesis projects. Research and service responsibilities include assisting in the diagnosis of parasitic diseases in the diagnostic laboratory, supporting (pre-)clinical studies on the diagnosis, treatment, and control of parasitic diseases in companion animals, and providing advice on parasitic diseases affecting companion animals.

This opening is based at Ghent University, one of Belgium’s major research universities, and is attached to a department combining translational physiology, infectiology, and public health. The role is especially relevant for applicants interested in parasitology, zoonoses, veterinary sciences, and applied disease research with direct diagnostic and clinical relevance.

Eligibility highlights include a Master in Veterinary Medicine, to be completed by the start date. For diplomas earned outside the European Union, a NARIC certificate of equivalence is required. The appointment is for two years, with the possibility of two renewals of two years each, subject to positive evaluation and the maximum term rules applying in the Flemish Community.
