About this position

Ghent University is offering an assistant position in the Department of Accounting, Corporate Finance and Taxation within the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. The post is based in Ghent, Belgium and is a 100% temporary appointment with one opening available.

The role is strongly research-oriented: at least 50% of the assignment will be devoted to academic research in preparation of a doctoral dissertation. In addition, the assistant will contribute to teaching in Dutch, specifically in the area of financial accounting, including tutorials for the course Vennootschapsboekhouden. The position also includes support for the department’s internal and external services.

This opportunity is aimed at candidates with a Master in Business Economics, Business Engineering, Business Administration, or an equivalent diploma. The degree must be obtained by the start of the appointment. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a NARIC certificate of equivalence is required (or proof that it has been applied for by the start date). The university also indicates that experience in teaching, extra training, or conference participation is recommended, and that applicants should have excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English.

The appointment starts at the earliest on 1 September 2026 and is offered for two years, with the possibility of two renewals of two years each, subject to positive evaluation and within the maximum appointment term defined by the Flemish Codex of Higher Education. Compensation is linked to salary scale AAP3, and the university highlights various employment benefits including training opportunities, paid leave, bicycle commuting reimbursement, and ecocheques.

Applications must be submitted online via the university’s e-recruitment system before the deadline of 4 August 2026 at 23:59 Brussels time. Applicants should upload a combined CV and overview of study results, a cover letter, and a diploma transcript if available. If relevant, additional documents include a translated diploma and the equivalence certificate. Late or non-online applications will not be accepted.

For questions about the vacancy, the contact person is Prof. dr. Patricia Everaert at [email protected].
