About this position

Karolinska Institutet is recruiting an Assistant Professor in Epidemiology or Biostatistics at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) in Solna, Sweden.

This is a strong opportunity for early-career researchers working in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, statistics, medical science, and related data-driven research areas. The department highlights broad methodological and applied interests, including causal inference, clinical trials, registry-based research, survival analysis, statistical genetics, predictive modelling, image analysis, and high-throughput data analysis.

The appointment is for six years and comes with a 9 MSEK funding package to support salary and research costs. The role is designed to help the successful candidate build an independent research group, contribute to teaching, and develop a strong academic profile within a highly collaborative international environment.

Eligibility requirements include a PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area, at least two peer-reviewed original publications as first or last author in addition to the doctoral thesis, and a strong research profile. KI gives priority to applicants whose PhD was awarded within the last seven years, while also allowing documented deductible time in special circumstances. Applicants should also demonstrate research excellence, an original and feasible research plan, external funding potential, international research experience, academic leadership potential, and fluency in English.

The application deadline is 31 August 2026. Applications must be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system and include a personal letter, the application form with research project, up to ten published papers and optionally one manuscript, and the PhD certificate. If applicable, documentation for deductible time must also be included.

Announced by Jorge M. Mendes, Associate Professor of Statistics and Data Science at NOVA Medical School, with the job contact listed as Paul Dickman, Professor at Karolinska Institutet.
