About this position

The Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Gdańsk is recruiting an Assistant Professor (Post-doc) to join the research project “Modelling Key Structural Properties of Nanoparticles Determining Their Release into the Environment and Transport – FateNANO”, co-financed by the Polish National Science Centre (NCN) under the OPUS-20 call.

The project addresses an important environmental nanoscience question: which structural properties of engineered nanomaterials determine their release, transport, and fate in the environment, and therefore their potential human and ecological exposure. The research combines nano-QSPR modelling, material flow analysis (MFA), and environmental fate modelling (EFM) to study representative nanoforms such as Ag, TiO₂, SiO₂, ZnO, and CeO₂.

The postdoctoral researcher will help develop and integrate models that capture nanoparticle-specific contributions to release and environmental transformation. A key responsibility will be supervising one PhD student working on MFA models, while also collaborating with two PhD students under the Principal Investigator’s supervision to integrate nano-QSPR and MFA with the EFM model. The role also includes prediction of transport and fate for representative engineered nanomaterials, data collection and evaluation, model grouping and integration, and dissemination of results through publications and conference presentations.

This is a full-time temporary position for 11 months, based in Gdańsk, Poland. The advertised gross salary is PLN 8,600. The role is embedded in an international and supportive research environment, with mentoring in scientific publishing and research grant preparation.

Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in chemistry, physics, biology, materials science, or a related natural science discipline. The post requires experience in modelling the transport and fate of nanomaterials, a strong publication record, excellent English, and strong scientific writing, analytical, organisational, and creative skills. Candidates should also demonstrate motivation to learn new methods and to build an independent scientific career.

The application deadline is 29 October 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Warsaw). Applications must be sent by email with the specified subject line and include the required documents in PDF format, including a CV, PhD diploma, reference letter, and consent/GDPR documentation.
