Assistant Professor (post-doc position) in the project “Women in the Lvov–Warsaw School: an analysis of the phenomenon” University of Warsaw in Poland

Assistant Professor (post-doc position) at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Warsaw, within the National Science Center OPUS 29 project “Women in the Lvov–Warsaw School: an analysis of the phenomenon”. This is a full-time temporary research appointment for 24 months, starting 27 July 2026, with research responsibilities only and no teaching duties.

The project investigates the role of women in the Lvov–Warsaw School, one of Poland’s most important philosophical movements, and explores the historical, social, personal, and scholarly factors that enabled a large group of women to study and conduct independent research in its circle. The successful candidate will contribute to reconstructing biographies, views, and academic as well as non-academic activities of female representatives of the school, and to analysing their significance for gender equality in science and for the image of the Polish female intellectual.

The post-doc will participate in international conferences, prepare at least two research articles for international journals over the employment period, take part in regular project meetings, and collaborate with the project leader on organisation and dissemination. The project is led by Anna Brożek, and interested candidates may also have the opportunity to gain teaching experience separately.

Eligibility is restricted to candidates with a PhD or equivalent in philosophy obtained no more than 12 years before the year of employment. Applicants should have publications and experience in the history of analytical philosophy, logic or psychology, and must be fluent in both Polish and English. Teamwork skills are required. Additional constraints apply for post-doc eligibility: the doctorate must have been awarded by a different institution than the host, or the candidate must have completed a documented postdoctoral fellowship of at least 10 months in another institution and in another country than the one where the PhD was conferred.

The appointment is funded through the NCN OPUS 29 project and includes annual super gross remuneration of PLN 140,000 (about EUR 34,146), monthly gross remuneration of around PLN 8,900 (about EUR 2,170), and an additional 13th salary. Funding is also available for conference and seminar participation and for specialist academic literature. The university also offers professional administrative support, development opportunities, and an interdisciplinary research environment.
