About this position

Assistant Professor (Postdoc) in Philosophy at the Jagiellonian University, Institute of Philosophy, Faculty of Philosophy, in Cracow, Poland.

This is a postdoctoral research position (Recognised Researcher R2) in a project focused on early modern philosophy of the 17th and 18th centuries and the philosophy of the Enlightenment. The project team is examining, in particular, the question of religion and its Enlightenment critique as a useful illusion, together with the political significance of historical and revealed religion, especially through the writings of Immanuel Kant.

The project leader is dr hab. Anna Tomaszewska, prof. UJ. Researchers joining the “Enlightenment and Publicity” project are expected to develop an in-depth analysis of themes in the philosophy of religion of the late Enlightenment that are directly relevant to the project’s central questions. The appointment is temporary, part-time (20 hours per week), with two positions available. The starting date is 2 November 2026. The application deadline is 10 September 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Warsaw).

Funding details include a basic gross salary in the range of 3,680.00–4,490.00 PLN, plus co-financing for summer holidays and winter holidays, along with access to university benefits such as sports and medical packages, insurance, and research infrastructure.

Eligibility requires a doctoral degree or equivalent, relevant scientific achievements, and active participation in scientific life. Strongly preferred are publications in reputable international journals or other publishing venues on a topic related to the project, as well as participation in international conferences and/or research projects aligned with the same theme. Good English proficiency is required.

Funding details
