About this position
Warsaw University of Technology is recruiting an Assistant Professor (Postdoctoral Researcher) for the Department of Medical Diagnostics at CEZAMAT in Warsaw, Poland.
The post is part of the NCN SONATA 19 project on hybrid graphene-carbon nanotube biosensors for multi-biomarker sepsis diagnostics. The successful candidate will work on surface chemistry and bioconjugation, functionalize graphene and single-walled carbon nanotubes, immobilize antibodies, antibody fragments and enzymes, and develop biosensors for CRP, PSP and lactate. The work also includes electrochemical and electronic measurements, experiments in physiological buffers and serum, data analysis, preparation of scientific publications and conference presentations, and partial supervision of a PhD student.
This is a research-only, full-time, temporary position with an expected start date of 1 November 2026 and an 11-month employment period through 30 September 2027. The annualised total employer cost is PLN 140,000 gross-gross, paid proportionally over the appointment.
Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in chemistry, biotechnology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, biophysics or a related field. The posting particularly values research experience in biosensing, electrochemical and/or FET-based biosensing, wet chemistry, surface modification, bioconjugation, biomolecule immobilization, and work with proteins, antibodies or enzymes. Experience with serum or plasma, carbon nanomaterials such as graphene or SWCNTs, data analysis tools such as Python or OriginPro, and a publication track record are all advantageous.
The role is especially relevant for researchers interested in analytical chemistry, bioelectronics, nanomaterials, and biomedical diagnostics. The project aims to address the Debye screening limitation with hybrid graphene-carbon nanotube devices for multi-biomarker diagnostics of sepsis.

What's required
PhD or equivalent in chemistry, biotechnology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, biophysics or a related field. Research experience in biosensing, preferably electrochemical and/or field-effect transistor (FET)-based electronic biosensing. Experience in wet chemistry and surface modification or functionalization, bioconjugation and biomolecule immobilization (especially EDC/NHS coupling, maleimide chemistry and/or PEG-based surface chemistry), and working with proteins, antibodies or antibody fragments and/or enzymes. Experience with biological samples or complex matrices such as serum or plasma, including control experiments and interference studies. Knowledge of electrochemical methods; FET measurements or other bioelectronic methods are an advantage. Knowledge of carbon nanomaterial surface chemistry, particularly graphene and/or SWCNTs, is an advantage. Experience in data analysis and visualization, with Python, OriginPro or similar tools as an advantage. Demonstrated scientific publishing record in biosensing, analytical chemistry, biotechnology, bioengineering or related fields. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and in an interdisciplinary team. Experience supervising students or junior researchers is an advantage. Excellent written and spoken English sufficient for scientific literature work, manuscript preparation and presentation of results.
