About this position
Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), through the Center of Excellence for Soil and Fertilizer Research in Africa (CESFRA) and the Center for Sustainable Soil Sciences (CAES), is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher in agronomy and soil sciences. The project focuses on the dynamics of soil organic matter (SOM), especially its stable forms, and on understanding the relationship between SOM and biological indicators of soil health under different land uses.
The position is centered on degraded soils, organic amendments, microbial inoculation, plant cover, soil health and quality, and sustainable agriculture. The successful candidate will investigate how land use and agricultural practices affect soil carbon storage, and will help develop strategies to increase soil organic matter sequestration in stable forms. The research also includes practical biological soil health indicators such as soil fauna, with the goal of supporting sustainable use of agricultural soils in Africa.
Main duties include surveying farmers in selected Mediterranean and Sub-Saharan African countries where soil organic carbon is low, characterizing soil properties from sampled farms, testing organo-mineral resources under controlled conditions, assessing their effects on soil carbon stock in the field, studying the stability of clay-humic complexes, evaluating biological soil parameters, and modeling the future dynamics of organic matter under global climate change using soil organic models. The postdoc will also mentor master’s and PhD students.
Applicants must hold a doctorate in Agronomy, Soil Sciences, or Soil Ecology and should have strong experience in soil science, soil fertility, crop production systems, field experiments, statistical analysis, and scientific writing. A record of high-quality publications is expected, as well as experience supervising students. Strong communication skills in both English and French are required.
UM6P is located in Benguerir, Morocco, and describes itself as an international-standard university with strong research and innovation ambitions. CESFRA aims to build a continental hub for soil suitability, land use, and fertilizer development, working with academic, research, policy, and private-sector partners across Africa.
No application deadline is specified in the posting. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, detailed CV, research and teaching statement, and three reference letters via the application link provided.
