This temporary academic appointment is for three years, with the possibility of a second term following a favorable evaluation. The position is research-focused, with at least 70% of the assignment dedicated to academic research in sociology. The successful candidate will also contribute to both Dutch- and English-taught programs at the Bachelor's and Master's levels, including co-teaching the 'Qualitative Research Design' course and supporting other courses related to qualitative research methods.
Responsibilities include counseling Master's students in their exercises, bachelor papers, and Master's dissertations, as well as providing guidance to doctoral students. The role is ideal for candidates who are passionate about coaching students and supporting their academic development across various levels of higher education.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Sociology. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) is required. Candidates must demonstrate excellent proficiency in both Dutch and English, as teaching and support are provided in these languages. The position is open to candidates who have distinguished themselves as promising researchers during their doctorate and who are interested in academic teaching and student supervision.
Ghent University offers a competitive salary according to scale AAP5, a wide range of benefits including 36 days of paid leave, training and education opportunities, bicycle commuting reimbursement, and ecocheques. The appointment will start on 1 February 2026 at the earliest. The university is committed to equal opportunities and diversity, and encourages all qualified candidates to apply.
To apply, candidates must submit their application online through the Ghent University e-recruitment system before the deadline of 9 December 2025. Required documents include a CV (with a list of scientific publications), a cover letter, a transcript of the required degree, and, if applicable, a certificate of equivalence for non-EU diplomas.
