About this position

Karolinska Institutet is offering a doctoral (PhD) student position in public health informatics focused on Mental Healthcare Digitalization and Work Environment. The position is based in the Digital Psychiatry Lab at the Centre for Psychiatry Research, Department of Clinical Neuroscience, where clinical and applied research explores digital psychiatry, digital tools for mental health, and the broader organizational and professional consequences of digital transformation in healthcare.

The project examines how digital mental healthcare is reshaping the work environment and wellbeing of mental health professionals across public and private settings. Research topics include psychosocial working conditions, organizational change, professional experiences, and the risks and opportunities linked to sustainable digital work environments. The doctoral student will contribute to the full research process, including study design, data collection, quantitative and qualitative analysis, stakeholder engagement, and scientific writing.

The project uses a mixed-methods approach and includes national survey research, qualitative interviews, policy and document analysis, and participatory research activities. This makes the position especially relevant for candidates interested in public health, occupational health, informatics, healthcare innovation, organizational psychology, and research with real-world policy relevance. The doctoral student will also have opportunities to engage in other projects within the Digital Psychiatry Lab and gain a broad methodological skill set.

Karolinska Institutet is one of the world’s leading medical universities and offers a stimulating research environment, access to elective doctoral courses, international collaboration opportunities, and a contractual salary through a doctoral studentship. The appointment is full time for up to four years.

Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree in a relevant field such as public health, health informatics, informatics, psychology, occupational health, epidemiology, social science, or medical science; strong quantitative and qualitative methods knowledge; excellent English and Swedish; and the ability to plan and drive work independently. Meritorious experience includes participatory design, co-design, design science research, survey research, interviews, focus groups, mixed-methods research, and experience with the Swedish healthcare and welfare context.

Application deadline: 2026-08-09. Apply via the Varbi recruitment system and include a personal letter, CV, relevant degree projects or publications, and documentation proving eligibility.
