About this position

The University of Luxembourg invites applications for a doctoral researcher position in Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure. This opportunity is based within the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF), a dynamic academic hub with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character. The university benefits from its proximity to European institutions, Luxembourg's international financial centre, and a vibrant business community, offering a unique research environment with strong institutional and private sector partnerships.

The doctoral researcher will prepare a thesis in criminal law or criminal procedure, considering national, European, or international perspectives. Candidates are encouraged to propose their own research topics within these fields, and the thesis may be written in French or English. The position offers the possibility of a cotutelle agreement with another university, and includes educational support activities in Leuven and Hasselt, as well as contributions to teaching.

The successful candidate will join a large research group comprising doctoral and postdoctoral researchers working on related topics. Supervision will be provided by Professor Silvia Allegrezza, whose academic profile can be found at the university website. The role is full-time (40 hours per week) and based at the Weicker Building, with a fixed-term contract of 36 months.

Applicants must hold a Master's Degree in Law or equivalent, with specialization in criminal law and/or criminal procedure considered an asset. Willingness to develop teaching abilities and teamwork skills are required. Language proficiency at B2 level in the thesis language is mandatory, with accepted certificates as per university guidelines.

The University of Luxembourg offers a modern, inclusive, and international environment, with staff from over 90 countries and membership in The Guild of European Research Intensive Universities. The research environment is supported by skilled staff, high-quality equipment, and strong links to professional sectors and the Luxembourg labour market. The university promotes an inclusive culture and encourages applications from individuals of all backgrounds.

The position provides a yearly gross salary of EUR 43445 for doctoral researchers. Applications should include a CV, cover letter, transcripts, detailed research proposal (2-4 pages), and referee contact information. Early application is encouraged, as applications are processed upon reception. Apply online through the HR system; applications by email will not be considered.
