About this position
University of Turku is inviting applications for a Doctoral Researcher position in Generative AI for Cyber Protection, Malware Analysis, and Vulnerability Detection at the Department of Computing, Faculty of Technology.
The project is part of a high-impact Horizon Europe collaboration focused on proactive, AI-driven cybersecurity. The successful candidate will work on generative reasoning, multimodal analysis, binary embeddings, Transformer models, reinforcement learning, and fuzzing-based vulnerability discovery to build expert agents for threat detection and defense.

Eligibility: MSc degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, or Cybersecurity; strong background in cybersecurity or machine learning/LLMs; excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; strong English communication skills; programming skills in Python, C++, or Rust; and interest in collaborative research with academia and industry. Applicants must be eligible for doctoral study rights at the University of Turku. In exceptional cases, candidates who have nearly completed the required master's studies may be considered.
Funding: Fully funded position. Salary is based on the university salary system and depends on qualifications and experience; the starting salary for doctoral/project researcher roles is approximately 2500–2700 euros/month.
Important note: Before doctoral study rights are granted, the title will be Project Researcher and the contract will run until 31.3.2027. The candidate is expected to apply for study rights in the next available Autumn 2026 call, e.g. to the Doctoral Programme in Technology.
