Doctoral Programme in Technology (DPT) at the University of Turku, Finland, is inviting applications for fixed-term doctoral researcher positions starting on 1 January 2027 or by agreement during 2027. The call also allows applications for continuation of an existing doctoral researcher contract, and up to one-year positions are available for applicants in the final stage of doctoral research who aim to submit their dissertation for pre-examination during 2027.

The positions are intended for full-time doctoral research and doctoral studies. Doctoral researchers may be placed at the Department of Computing, Department of Life Technologies, Department of Management and Entrepreneurship, Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, or Turku Bioscience Centre. The programme is multidisciplinary and spans technology-focused and cross-disciplinary research, including computing, software engineering, informatics, biotechnology, bioinformatics, molecular and life sciences, materials and mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, management, and entrepreneurship.

The University of Turku states that a doctoral researcher must reside in Finland, and the workplace is Turku, with flexible remote work opportunities. The employment contract is based on 1,612 annual working hours, with teaching and other duties typically limited to about 5% of annual working time so that dissertation progress remains on schedule. Prior funding for doctoral studies, the planned schedule, and the current stage of the research are considered when determining contract length.

Eligibility requires an active study right for a doctoral degree in the Doctoral Programme in Technology at the University of Turku. If the study right has not yet been granted, applicants must apply for it through Studyinfo in this call. The qualifying degree must be completed within the application period, or after the deadline if the applicant graduates and submits the required documents by 13 November 2026. Applicants must be planning to pursue or already pursuing their first doctoral degree and must not have already received four years of full-time funding for doctoral studies.

Selection is based on the research implementation plan, including feasibility in the host group and supervisor assessment; the planned research, including goals, methods, timeframe, novelty, impact, and relevance; and the applicant’s background, including motivation, academic success, publications, completed doctoral studies, and international activities. The Doctoral Programme aims to support high-quality doctoral training and interdisciplinary collaboration across science and engineering.

The salary follows the University of Turku teaching and research staff system. The task-specific salary level for a doctoral researcher varies between levels 2 and 4 depending on the doctoral stage, and a new doctoral researcher is generally placed at level 2. The monthly salary is roughly €2,400 to €3,300 depending on progress, experience, and skills. The probationary period is six months, or less if the employment period is shorter.
