About this position

Örebro University is advertising a doctoral student position in Computer Science with a research focus on cybersecurity for embodied AI. The position is part of the School of Science and Technology and is linked to the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP), Sweden’s major national research initiative in AI, autonomous systems, and software.

The project sits at the intersection of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, robotics, and autonomous systems. It examines how physical embodiment and configuration influence the security of AI-driven systems, how robots and embodied systems can assess their own vulnerabilities, and how dynamic reconfiguration may improve resilience under attack. The research aims to move beyond traditional security mechanisms and explore proactive, adaptive approaches to mitigating security risks in real-world intelligent systems.

The doctoral student will be affiliated with the Department of Computer Science and will complete a four-year full-time doctoral programme leading to a PhD degree. The position includes a full-time doctoral studentship for the duration of the studies. The initial salary is SEK 32,300 per month. As a WASP graduate school student, you may benefit from an interdisciplinary training environment, research visits, partner universities, visiting lecturers, and networking across academia and industry.

Applicants must meet the general and specific eligibility requirements for doctoral studies in Computer Science. A strong background in cybersecurity is expected, especially in system security, network security, or AI/ML security. Interest in advanced interdisciplinary research combining AI, robotics, and cybersecurity is important. Experience with autonomous systems, machine learning-based decision-making, ROS, or embedded systems security is advantageous but not mandatory.
