About this position
Chalmers University of Technology is advertising a Doctoral student position in Sustainable Antifouling strategies, focused on the evaluation of ultrasound as an antifouling method from environmental and economic perspectives. The project sits within the Division of Maritime Environmental Science at the Department of Environmental and Energy Sciences and is aimed at research on sustainable shipping, marine environment, and biofouling on ship hulls.
The research will investigate how ultrasound can hinder marine organisms on ship hulls, compare ultrasound with existing and emerging antifouling alternatives, and assess effects in marine ecosystems. The project is interdisciplinary and combines experimental and analytical work, field measurements, data processing, statistical analysis, and publication writing. It also includes communication of results to environmental agencies, industry, and academia.
Eligibility highlights: applicants must have a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Natural Sciences (such as Biology, Oceanography, Environmental or Marine Sciences), or equivalent. For applicants educated outside Sweden, a 4-year Bachelor’s degree is accepted. Strong English communication skills are required, along with experience in lab or field work, data collection, statistical analyses, and presentation of results. Experience with experimental design, aquatic fieldwork, and programming in R, Matlab, or Python is considered meritorious.
