About this position

The University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore) in Modena, Italy, is offering a two-year full-time postdoctoral position in cognitive neuroscience within the ERC Consolidator project READy, “Connecting human brain structure to function within the READing circuitry.” The project aims to deepen understanding of reading behavior by linking structural and functional properties of the brain.

The position is led by Prof. Sendy Caffarra, a cognitive neuroscientist of language whose research focuses on reading-related changes in the brain and behavior. The research environment is highly interdisciplinary and includes MRI and EEG facilities, as well as connections to a broader international collaboration network involving Stanford University, the University of Washington, and the University of Zurich.

The successful candidate will work on EEG-based investigations of reading processing in children and adults, contributing to the conceptual development of the project and to multi-method data integration. The role also offers opportunities for teaching, supervision of junior researchers, and participation in grant-related activities.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Neuroscience or a related field and have strong expertise in EEG methods. Excellent written and oral communication skills are expected, as evidenced by publications and conference presentations. Useful additional skills include programming in Python or R, experience with HPC systems, and familiarity with statistical approaches such as linear mixed models and Bayesian methods. Knowledge of Italian is desirable but not essential.

The contract is full-time, with a gross annual salary ranging from €33,000 to €39,000 depending on the candidate’s track record. Researchers relocating from abroad may also be eligible for the Italian tax incentive known as Rientro dei Cervelli, which can exempt 90% of qualifying employment income from Italian income tax for an initial six-year period.

The application deadline is 19 October 2026 at 13:00 CEST. Applications must be submitted online via the PICA/Cineca portal using the official link provided in the posting.
