About this position
Fukushima Prefecture is recruiting fixed-term researchers at the Fukushima Prefectural Environmental Creation Center for work in environmental science, radiation effects, waste management, environmental dynamics, ecosystems, climate change adaptation, sociology, and economic policy.
The center was established to support environmental recovery and creation after the Great East Japan Earthquake and nuclear disaster. The research department works with JAEA, NIES, and F-REI on three main themes: radiation measurement and waste, environmental dynamics and ecosystems, and environmental creation including Lake Inawashiro, climate change adaptation, and waste reduction.
Two positions are available: one in Radiation Measurement and Waste Management and one in Environmental Creation / Social Sciences. The first focuses on safety assessment of radiation effects at waste final disposal sites and the movement and accumulation of radioactive cesium. The second focuses on future projections and factor analysis for a decarbonized society and climate change adaptation in the prefecture.
This is a full-time, fixed-term, non-tenure-track researcher/postdoc-equivalent appointment. The term is four years, with a possible extension up to five years from the start date. Salary is based on experience, with an annual income starting around 6 million yen, plus commuting allowance and bonuses; housing allowance and dependent allowance are not paid.
Applicants should have a doctoral degree or be expected to complete one by March 31, 2027, or hold a relevant master's degree with equivalent ability. Field-specific backgrounds include science, engineering, agriculture, economics, sociology, and environmental science depending on the post. The hiring date is April 1, 2027.
Applications must arrive by November 6, 2026. Submit the specified forms and supporting documents by registered mail to the Fukushima Prefectural Government address listed in the posting. Web and email applications are not accepted.
