About this position
Four 2-year postdoctoral fellowships are available at the Zukunftskolleg, the Institute for Advanced Study for early career postdoctoral researchers at the University of Konstanz in Germany.
The position is full-time (E 13 TV-L) and is intended for excellent researchers from the natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences. Fellows gain research independence, interdisciplinary and intergenerational exchange, integration into the university, and international contacts. The working language is English.
Each fellow is affiliated with both a university department and the Zukunftskolleg, and may also connect with one of the University of Konstanz’s clusters of excellence, including Politics of Inequality or the Centre for the Advanced Study of Collective Behaviour.
Applicants are expected to develop and implement their own research project, build their research profile, participate in weekly meetings, and contribute to the interdisciplinary postdoctoral community. There is no teaching obligation, though teaching in cooperation with a department is possible.
Eligibility is targeted at early career postdoctoral researchers who earned their doctorate between 30 September 2024 and 1 October 2026, with limited exceptions for parental leave or non-academic employment. Applicants must not hold a permanent professorship or have habilitation/Venia legendi. A research project must connect to a discipline represented at the University of Konstanz, and applicants are encouraged to include a reflection on how their work relates to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The fellowship offers professional research infrastructure, an appropriate workplace, an individual research allowance, and access to pools for collaborative projects, research assistants, travel, and equipment. The appointment may be extended for one further year if an external grant proposal is submitted. Candidates should also have or establish a local host at the University of Konstanz and live in Konstanz or the surrounding area.
Applications must be submitted in English through the university’s online application portal by 12 October 2026 at 11:00 a.m. CET. Required documents are a motivation letter, research proposal, curriculum vitae, writing sample, and two reference letters. Referees should send their letters directly to [email protected].
