About this position

PhD positions are available at the International Max Planck Research School for Living Matter (IMPRS-LM), a joint doctoral program with the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology, TU Dortmund University, Ruhr University of Bochum, and University of Duisburg-Essen in Dortmund, Germany.

The program focuses on interdisciplinary research in biochemistry, structural biology, biophysics, cell biology, chemical biology, and synthetic biology, with additional relevance to molecular biology, chemistry, physics, bioinformatics, and data science. Students will investigate how chemical components organize into dynamic living cells using experimental, theoretical, and computational approaches.

This is a full PhD opportunity with fully funded positions provided through employment contracts with full social benefits. The program is taught in English and includes dedicated mentorship, a rigorous curriculum, hands-on research in world-class labs, advanced workshops, transferable skills training, and career development support.

Eligible applicants should hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Biology, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, (Bio-)Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, or a related field. Required application materials include a motivation letter, CV, certificates, and transcripts.

The application deadline is 2026-10-01. Interested candidates should review the program requirements and application FAQ on the IMPRS-LM website and submit their application via the official application page.
