About this position

Brainlab – Cognitive Neuroscience Research Group at the University of Barcelona is advertising a fully funded 3+1 year PhD position in cognitive neuroscience, focused on the project “Interindividual variability in the Sense of Agency (VariSoA)”.

The project investigates the sense of agency—how people experience control over their actions and outcomes—and aims to understand why this varies across healthy individuals. Research topics include motor-sensory interactions, neurogenetics, EEG, non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS), biomarkers, and the development of a reliable assessment tool for sense of agency.

Applicants should have a background in Neuroscience or related fields such as Psychology, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, Medicine, Biology, Engineering, or Physics. Required qualifications include EU citizenship, at least 300 ECTS including a Master’s degree (minimum 60 ECTS at Master’s level), an outstanding academic record, and programming experience in MATLAB, Python, or R. Experience with EEG and/or NIBS is considered an advantage.

The selected candidate will join the PhD Programme in Biomedicine (Neurosciences) or the PhD Programme in Brain, Cognition and Behaviour at the University of Barcelona and will be part of the María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence Institute of Neurosciences.

To apply, send a motivation letter, CV, official transcript of academic records in ECTS format, and optional recommendation letters to isanmiguel@ub.edu with the subject line “PhD VariSoA position”. The pre-selection phase is planned for September–October 2026, and the official FPI call is expected in November–December 2026.
