About this position

King's College London / EPSRC DRIVE-Health Centre for Doctoral Training is recruiting for a fully funded PhD project in digital health, maternal health, wearable technology, electronic health records, and machine learning.

The project is titled PRiSMM Digital Health: Preventing Severe Maternal Morbidity through Digital Signatures of Health Outcomes and is co-funded by BiotrackOS (and noted as co-funded with The Original Fit Factory). The successful candidate will join a cross-disciplinary supervisory team spanning academia, healthcare, and industry, including Dr Kate Duhig and Dr Petroula Laiou at King's College London, Associate Professor Claire Carson at the University of Oxford, and James Wildish (CTO, BiotrackOS).

The research focuses on integrating wearable-device data with national PRiSMM electronic health record data to study pregnancy outcomes and severe maternal complications. The project aims to describe physiological and activity patterns across gestation, build predictive models from multimodal data, and validate them with attention to fairness and performance across demographic groups. Relevant methods and themes include AI, machine learning, deep learning, multimodal data analysis, mobile health, health data science, and healthcare innovation.

This opportunity is open to candidates with home fee status only. Applicants should have or expect to achieve a 1st or upper second-class degree in a relevant subject such as biosciences, computer science, mathematics, statistics, data science, chemistry, or physics. English language requirements are specified as IELTS Band D with overall 6.5 and minimum 6.0 in each component.

Funding is comprehensive: full home tuition fees for 4 years, a tax-free stipend of approximately £25,805 per year, a funded 3-month placement, additional research/training/travel support, and up to £20,000 RTSG over 4 years for consumables and conference attendance.
